Rough Start to 2009
Season
By

Winchester, N.H. (April 27, 2009) - After a rough practice day on April 18
at Monadnock Speedway, the team headed back to Monadnock Speedway on April
25th for the series opener. After a few minor changes after the first
practice the entire team had high hopes for a good qualifying run.
Kenny would start forth in the third heat. After getting off to a bad
start, due to the car starting in front of him having a mechanical
failure, Kenny started towards the front. It was a pretty uneventful heat
race except for caution. Kenny was able to finish back where he started in
forth giving him a 12th place starting spot in the feature.
As the feature got under way everyone on the team had high hopes for a
good finish and a good start to the season. Kenny started off slow but
that wasn’t all due to the car. The race was slowed also. There where ten
caution periods during the entire race. Kenny reported that the car was
good for 3 to 5 laps after the restart and he believed he had a bad shock
somewhere on the car.
Kenny would find himself in or around a lot of events that would bring out
the caution. Around lap 40 Kenny would be spun out by the 27 car as he had
a tire go flat as he was attempting to pass Kenny. This would cause no
problems to the car and Kenny was able to drive away. Then on lap 89 Kenny
would try to get low coming out of turn 2 as good friend and at the time
race leader Kirk Alexander in the 43 modified would be passing him. As
Kenny exited turn 2 the 69 car in front of him would slow and pull down so
the leader could pass. As this happened Kenny would try to avoid running
into the back of the 69 cause the car to twitch. According to Kirk he saw
Kenny in the 77 modified twitch, so he went a little higher and got into
the marble in the top of the corner and hit the wall. It was original
determined by race officials that the 77 made contact with the 43 causing
him to hit the wall. We now know that that wasn’t what happened and the
series gave Kenny a 17th place finish.
NOTES: Next race is May 9th at Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT
Kirk Alexander will be taking the trip to Waterford with Gangsta Racing to
help out Kenny and the crew.
