2008 TVMRS
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR by Ryan Lawliss
October 26th, 2008
Claremont, N.H. - The 2008 racing season is finished for Gangsta Racing
and what a season it was. Over the course of the season Kenny found
himself running in the top 10 on numerous occasions. After battling all
season long Kenny finished the season with a 18th place finish at Twin
State Speedway, to win Rookie of the Year honors. However it wasn’t an
easy road to get there!
Kenny entered the race at Twin State Speedway with only a 24 point lead
over Joe Doucette in the 55 modified. Kenny, having never been to Twin
State Speedway before, used the first practice to try and figure the place
out. After the first practice the team made some changes to the car,
unfortunately Kenny would never make it out on the track for the second
and final practice. Kenny would start 2nd in the 3rd heat race but would
have a rough go at it as the car was a little off. Kenny would finish 5th
in his heat and would start 14th in the feature.
At the start of the Kenny would settle into line quickly and started to
get into a rhythm until the first caution came out. Kenny would restart on
the outside and this would prove to be a problem. Kenny quickly started to
loose a lot of ground before being able to get to the bottom of the track.
A few laps later another caution would come out; and again Kenny would be
restarting on the outside this time proving to be extremely costly. About
two laps later the 15 modified of Chris Pasteryak would spin and Kenny
would make contact with him causing front end damage. The crew would spend
the next few cautions fixing the car, unfortunately before they could get
everything lined up and fixed Kenny went a lap down. However the crew
fixed the car and for the rest of the race Kenny picked up as many spots
as he could. And in the end everything worked out. Kenny won Rookie of the
Year honors by 20 points.
After the race Kenny talked to numerous reports, but one of the reports
asked him a question about his favorite moment this season. And his answer
was all the hard work and dedication by the crew and all of the support
from his wife, mother, and father.
With the season over check back over the winter for updates on the plans
for 2009 and any other important announcements.
